Cabo Verde’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 134.52 in 2025, the highest figure recorded since the series began in 1983 and placing the nation at 151st in the global ranking. The index has risen from a trough of 29.56 in 1983, reflecting more than a four‑fold increase over 43 years as the country transitioned from a low‑income, import‑dependent economy to a service‑oriented island state with expanding tourism and remittance inflows. Inflationary pressures intensified after 2015, driven by currency depreciation, higher fuel costs and limited domestic production capacity, while fiscal consolidation measures introduced in the early 2020s have only partially offset price growth. Cabo Verde’s CPI trajectory closely mirrors that of Portugal, which posted a comparable level of 134.94, underscoring similar exposure to global commodity cycles despite differing economic structures. Continued monetary tightening and diversification of local supply chains will be crucial to tempering future CPI movements and preventing a resurgence of the steep upward trend.
