The Republic of Congo’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen from 35.45 in 1985 to 146.80 in 2025, marking a four‑fold increase over four decades and placing the country at rank 120 globally with the 2025 figure of 146.80. This trajectory reflects a prolonged period of inflationary pressure, with the all‑time peak coinciding with the most recent data point and the all‑time trough recorded in the mid‑1980s. Compared with peer economies of similar rank, the CPI is closely aligned with Fiji’s 146.58 and slightly below Maldives’ 147.33, suggesting that the Republic of Congo shares a comparable price level environment with other small, open economies despite its larger population. The upward swing in the index has been driven by persistent fiscal deficits, currency depreciation, and external commodity price shocks, which have amplified domestic price dynamics. If monetary tightening and structural reforms succeed in stabilising the exchange rate, the CPI could moderate, potentially reversing the steep upward path observed since the 1980s.
