The 2025 World Bank ranking of 187 economies by GDP at purchasing power parity reveals a top tier defined by vast demographic and industrial scale. China leads at $41.02 trillion, followed by the United States at $30.62 trillion, with India in third at $17.71 trillion. These three nations together command over half of global PPP output, their positions underpinned by large workforces, extensive infrastructure, and diversified manufacturing or service sectors. At the bottom, Tuvalu ($61 million), Nauru ($148 million), and the Marshall Islands ($281 million) are constrained by extreme geographic isolation, tiny populations, and limited natural resource endowments, which restrict their capacity for capital accumulation and economies of scale. The gap between the top and bottom reflects structural disparities in labor force size and market integration. A sustained shift in the leaderboard would likely require either a major technological breakthrough that revalues natural capital or a demographic transition that alters the relative weight of large emerging economies.
