Armenia’s youth literacy rate stands at 99.75 % in 2025, ranking the country 15th worldwide according to the World Bank. The indicator has shown remarkable stability over the 12‑year series, slipping slightly from its all‑time peak of 100.00 % recorded in 2019 to the current trough, yet remaining above the 1990s level of 99.91 % observed in 1989. Compared with peers of similar rank, Armenia exceeds Ecuador’s 99.83 % and Azerbaijan’s 99.87 %, while still outpacing Viet Nam’s 99.52 % and Bolivia’s 99.48 %. The modest decline since the 2019 peak likely reflects demographic shifts and the challenges of maintaining universal literacy among marginalised groups rather than systemic educational deterioration. Continued investment in early‑grade teaching quality and targeted outreach to remote communities will be crucial to sustain the near‑universal level and possibly return the rate to the 100 % benchmark in the coming years.
