Dominica’s deposit rate has fallen sharply over the 45‑year series, sliding from an all‑time peak of 4.84% in 1983 to a trough of 1.53% in 2025, the latter also representing its latest reading and ranking it 74th globally. The decline from the earliest recorded 4.27% in 1981 reflects a broader easing of monetary conditions and heightened competition among banks, which has compressed margins on time‑deposit products. By contrast, peer small‑state economies such as Seychelles and Cambodia post similar rates of 1.53% and 1.54% respectively, while larger economies like China and Trinidad and Tobago sit slightly lower at 1.50%. The persistent downward trajectory suggests that unless domestic policy shifts to tighten liquidity or banks introduce higher‑yield instruments, Dominica’s deposit rates are likely to remain near the lower end of the global distribution in the near term.
