Overview
Türkiye's youth literacy rate stood at 92.13% in 2025, a decline of +0.10pp from 2022. Based on recent trends, this figure is projected to reach 92.13% by 2025. Türkiye ranked 53rd globally.
Turkey’s youth literacy rate has risen from a trough of 80.05 % in 1975 to an all‑time peak of 99.96 % in 2021, before slipping slightly to 92.13 % in 2025, placing the country 53rd worldwide. The 2025 figure is marginally below that of Rwanda (92.38 %) and Namibia (91.86 %), and only a fraction lower than Indonesia’s 93.07 % and Trinidad and Tobago’s 91.70 %. The 22‑year coverage shows a long‑term upward trajectory, yet the recent decline suggests that sustaining the near‑universal literacy achieved in the early 2020s will require renewed investment in primary education quality, teacher training and digital learning resources. Continued policy focus on reducing dropout rates and expanding access in rural regions could reverse the modest downturn and restore Turkey’s progress toward the high‑literacy benchmarks set during the 2021 peak.
