Palau has consistently demonstrated a high literacy rate, with the latest available figure standing at 100.00% in 2020, making it the country with the highest literacy rate globally. This represents a significant improvement from the 91.92% recorded in 1980, marking a substantial increase of approximately 8.08 percentage points over the four-decade period. Palau's literacy rate has surpassed that of its peer countries, with Georgia boasting a literacy rate of 99.94% and Armenia 99.79%. The country's strong educational system has contributed to this achievement, with a focus on promoting education among its citizens. However, Palau's high literacy rate is not without its challenges, as the country's small population and remote location pose unique obstacles to education. A decline in government funding for education or a significant shift in the country's economic priorities could potentially disrupt this trend, but for now, Palau's literacy rate remains a notable achievement.
