Egypt, Arab Republic of Forest Area

Egypt's forest area has experienced fluctuations over the past three and a half decades, with a marked increase from 0.04 in 1990 to 0.07 in 2010, its highest recorded level. However, this upward trend was short-lived, as the forest area began to decline, reaching 0.05 by 2025. Egypt's current ranking of #206 globally puts it in a precarious position, with peer countries such as the Faroe Islands at 0.06 and Oman at 0.01. In contrast, Egypt's forest area has expanded significantly more than that of Greenland, which currently stands at 0.00. The slight decrease in forest area from 2010 to 2025 suggests a reversal of the earlier growth trend, which may be attributed to the country's rapid urbanization and agricultural development. A reversal of this trend would require concerted efforts to prioritize reforestation and sustainable land management practices, potentially driven by shifts in government policies and international cooperation.
